Instances of inconsistency in service can dampen the experience, as some diners report mixed interactions with staff, particularly regarding charges for condiments like ketchup. A few customers express concern about table cleanliness, specifically sticky surfaces that may not meet their expectations. Noise levels can increase during peak hours, which occasionally detracts from the cozy atmosphere. While the food quality is often praised, some dishes like the spam fritters can be considered overly greasy by certain diners. Lastly, the restaurant’s busy hours may result in longer waits, especially during high-demand times like Saturday evenings.
Great fish and chip shop right in front of the harbour. Food was really good and was nice and clean inside. The only thing that I didn’t like was when I asked for ketchup, the server said she’d do me 5 for £1 (I don’t like paying for condiments after spending £40 on food) Only for the customer behind me asked if he had to pay for ketchup and the same server said no and gave him a handful of it for free. All in all a great place to eat and there is toilets inside which are also nice and clean.
I'll drop it a point because while the serving staff were spot on. The young lad clearing the tables was dropping F bombs quite regularly. Not ideal. The food was seaside fare and fine for that. Having a beer with it was fab. I also discovered spam fritters. Greasy and lovely.
We called in here today as it was a special day celebrating and remembering my Dad's life. He loved this fish and chip cafe, so today was a day we went with my Mum. From walking through the door, we were greeted with a lovely young lady with a warm smile, she was very patient whilst we decided what we would like, even advising us of what the fish was and that it was skinless and boneless, just how I prefer. She took our order and gave us the order receipt, advising us that we will be called once the food and drinks were ready. I like how the drinks are served at the same time as the food. The cafe is lovely inside with nautical theme, spotlessly clean and welcoming feel to the place. When the food arrived it was piping hot and absolutely delicious, I will go as far as saying, it was the BEST fish I have ever had, pure white Haddock with a perfectly light and crispy batter, I chose to have salt and vinegar on it. My husband opted for a battered sausage buttie, to which he thoroughly enjoyed. The cafe staff we found all very pleasant and, sitting at a table with a view of the bay (perfect). We visited the loo before we left, which incidentally very again spotlessly clean. I make no wonder my Dad loved this place. A review also in memory of my lovely Dad. Thank you Anchor Fish & Chips, we highly recommended you.
Wow…. There’s nothing else to say. Ordered a large fish & chips to share with my better half and did not expect to receive 2 full size fish. Setting fab (although the tables are a little sticky) with nice atmosphere over looking the harbour. Recommended and will be back if we visit Scarborough again.
Best fish and chips I’ve ever had . Light crispy batter and crumbly fish .
Excellent fish and chips. Fish lovely white and flakey, batter nice and chips where tasty. Couldn't believe the size of the portions when ordering large. Not the cheapest but like most things you get what you pay for. The service was good and we didn't have to wait long for our order. Highly recommend!!
